blow dry and re-comb the sheepskins using a hot air machine to get them wrinkle-free and looking evenly fluffy.
Oliver Heitmann: We also cut off the short-haired areas of the belly and the animals’ axillae or ‘legpits’. Those are specials things about Heitmann: strict qual- ity controls, painstaking refinement and personalised customer service.
Carpet! Magazine: So you also do custom work?
Nadine Heitmann: Heitmann Felle still operates an in-house own furrier workshop run by an expe- rienced and highly knowledgeable specialist furrier who has been with the company quite a long time. Custom work orders are generally completed within a week’s time, depending on the season.
Carpet! Magazine: When it comes to service, stocking and deliverability are pertinent issues ...
Oliver Heitmann: We see those as our strong points as well in addition to quality control and our partner- ship approach to working with customers. Currently we have over 50,000 lambskins in stock plus some 10,000 - 13,000 cattle hides, enabling us to rapidly and reliably supply customers: firstly our regular buy- ers and secondly we also are often able to assist furni- ture stores which do their own importing in case of availability problems. Smaller companies are also very welcome as our customers, for beyond sheep and cat- tle skins we also offer fur products like car seat skins, bicycle saddle covers and lambskin gloves and slip- pers without a minimum purchase requirement.
Carpet! Magazine: You have a separate catalogue for infant items like lambskins, children’s footmuffs, crib and pram inlays and lambskin shoes. Certification is undoubtedly an important issue with these.
Nadine Heitmann: It is, and we have a proprietary infants and toddlers collection with the brand name “Eisbärchen” (English: “polar bearcubs”). The brand is well-known in the marketplace, standing for Heit- mann quality and products you can trust. The quality of all of our products is certified under the Oeko-Tex
