standard, be it infant lambskins, various children’s footmuffs with and without lambskin or lambskin baby booties.
Certification is not just an issue, it is extremely impor- tant to our customers, who need to know they can rely on us. And certification is especially crucial for our lambskins for infants, because babies have direct skin contact with these products.
Our infant lambskins are tanned under medical con- ditions, and also washable. In an issue of the con- sumer magazine Öko-Test from a few years ago our skins for babies were rated “good” – the highest grade awarded in the study. Sales of lambskins for babies are significantly higher today than a few years ago, as it has been found that bacterial cultures in the fur are positive for children’s health. A number of long-term studies have been conducted confirming this. Laying a newborn on a real animal skin is recommended to strengthen his or her immunity against hay fever and asthma, for according to studies, babies who sleep on a lambskin have fewer such problems later on in life.
All of our skins for infants are certified under the Oeko-Tex standard and tested for skin compatibility, without exception. For decorative sheepskins this is not compulsory, but we still comply so that our cus- tomers can be sure when buying a skin from us. Be- cause Heitmann Felle is the name for quality.
Oliver Heitmann: The certifications not only guaran- tee the absence of any harmful substances, by the way – they also guarantee socially responsible production. Our partner tanneries are certified under international standards, including for example ISO and BSCI, which means that they ensure fair working conditions.
Carpet! Magazine: Heitmann is celebrating its 200th birthday this year, and when you took over the helm not long ago it represented the sixth generation of fam- ily management of the enterprise. So even as you walk in the footsteps of tradition, you are also introducing a number of innovations.
Nadine Heitmann: Indeed, and all of us on the team are committed to staying close to our roots.
All sheepskins are blow-dried by a hot-air machine and combed to get them wrinkle-free and evenly fluffy.

Und nicht nur bei unseren Baby-Lammfellen, aber da natürlich ganz besonders, da die Kleinsten ja direkten Hautkontakt zum Produkt haben.
Unsere Baby-Lammfelle sind medizinisch gegerbt und außerdem waschbar. Im vor ein paar Jahren vom Ver- brauchermagazin „Öko-Test“ durchgeführten Test ha- ben unsere Babyfelle mit der Note „gut“ abgeschnitten, das war die Bestnote in der Untersuchung. Heute wer- den wieder deutlich mehr Babylammfelle verkauft als noch vor ein paar Jahren; die Bakterienkulturen im Fell wirken sich positiv auf die Gesundheit des Kindes aus. Darüber gibt es verschiedene Langzeitstudien. Wer sein Kind gegen Heuschnupfen und Asthma wappnen will, sollte es nach der Geburt auf ein echtes Tierfell bet- ten: Laut Studie leiden Babys, die auf einem Lammfell schlafen, später seltener an diesen Krankheiten.
Grundsätzlich werden alle unsere Babyfelle nach dem Oeko-Tex-Standard zertifiziert und auf Hautverträg- lichkeit getestet. Das ist bei Dekorations-Schaffellen nicht vorgeschrieben, aber wir machen das trotzdem, um unseren Kunden Sicherheit zu geben, wenn sie ein Fell aus unserem Hause kaufen. Denn der Name Heit- mann Felle ist ein Begriff für Qualität.
Oliver Heitmann: Bei den Zertifizierungen geht es übrigens nicht nur um Schadstofffreiheit, sondern auch um Social Responsibility im Produktionsbetrieb.
