Made by Steve McCurry in 1984 in a refugee camp in Pakistan, this photo was to be seen around the world. The book “Afghanistan – Steve McCurry” encapsu- lates photos spanning four decades. Hoffmeister assembled one of the most ex- tensive and important private collections of antique Turkmen carpets in the western world. Among his publications: the reference books "Turkoman Car- pets in Franconia" and "Tent Band - Tent Bag: Classic Turkmen Weaving". •

Hoffmeister trug eine der um- fangreichsten und bedeutendsten privaten Sammlungen antiker turkmenischer Knüpfteppiche in der westlichen Welt zusammen. research, passed away. Among his many accomplishments, Dr. Thompson co-curat-
ed with Louise Mackie the groundbreaking
1980 exhibition “Turkmen Carpets” at the
Textile Museum in Washington. Moreover,
he also collaborated on the accompanying catalogue, which is also considered a milestone. From 2001 to 2007, Thompson worked at the Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology and at the Khalili Research Centre of Oxford University. In 2008 Dr. Thompson received the George Hewitt Myers Award for his life’s work in textile art from the Textile Mu- seum in Washington •
