History
2008 – Michael Steinert, owner of Hamburg-based publisher SN-Verlag (Carpet Home and other trade magazines), commits to donating the construction costs for a new CARE & FAIR school project. The plot of land
in Garauli village was donated to CARE & FAIR by two brothers of a school headmaster, and the cornerstone for the building was laid this past October.
2010 - The opening ceremony is held for the new “car- petXL School” in March. SN-Verlag covered operating costs to run the school from 2010 - 2015, through dona- tions.
2010 - CARE & FAIR conducts its fifth Woman Empower- ment program at the new school.
Since 2015 the School’s sponsors have been the Australia- based The Rug Establishment by Hiphome, along with the company’s Indian exporter Designer’s Desire.
About the school
- The School is tuition-free and offers classes 1-8
- Current enrolment is 348 students (186 boys, 162 girls)
- The School has ten teachers and five non-teaching staff.
- A Women’s Advancement Program (WEP) has been offered free of charge since 2002.
- 32 women are currently participating in the Program. - There are two WEP instructors and one other
staff member.
- The service portfolio includes free health checks for students and computer lessons.
- A solar power system was installed on the building in 2016, eliminating dependence on a diesel-powered generator.
- Attendance 2010-2022 (since opening): 4,109 students (2,088 boys, 2,021 girls)
       The CARE & FAIR carpetXL School has been making an important contribution to the education of young people in Bhadohi since opening its doors 13 years ago.
