Handmade carpets
Despite the broadening range of machine-woven carpets on offer, the importance of hand-made carpets in the marketplace should not be underes- timated. There is considerable demand for knotted carpets despite the fact that relatively high-priced fine woven carpets are selling well. There was a lot going on in Hall 2, where mainly European im- porters were set up, as well as Hall 4, where
“We were able to greet many of our partners in person again within a short span of time, make new contacts and see products up close and touch them. We are always on the lookout for top products we can add to the diverse array we offer customers. We found both the machi- ne-made and the hand-made goods that we were looking for, and were particularly interes- ted in the innovative concepts we saw in terms of design, quality and sustainability.”

The judges chose the Le Fil Vert rug collection of ABC Italia for an award for its use of fibre derived from an innovative full-cycle recycling process and for its so- cially responsible, traditional handcraft production.
Puro by Oriental Weavers received an award for 100% usage of recycled cotton, thereby avoiding the tremendous amount of water consumption re- quired to cultivate this raw material.
The judges panel further recognised Tisca for the holistic sustainability approach taken for its Res- pect collection, made of the natural fibre organic cotton hand-combined with new wool from spe- cies-appropriate production.
